Michael represents banks, creditors, and financial service companies with commercial finance, debt collection, workout, bankruptcy and creditors’ rights matters.   His state and federal court practice often involves assisting clients with debtor-creditor disputes.  Michael has experience helping corporate debtors, creditors, committees, and trustees in bankruptcy court with financing, cash collateral, employment, dischargeability, automatic stay, asset sales, lease assumption and rejection, claim objections, and plan confirmation issues.  He also represents and defends clients in litigation involving preferential and fraudulent transfers, breaches of fiduciary duties, and stay violations.

In addition to his bankruptcy practice, Michael handles general corporate matters for clients and assists them with a variety of matters including entity formation and dissolution, lease negotiation and enforcement, stock and asset sales, as well as governance and fiduciary duty matters.

Active in the community, Michael is a past president of the South Carolina Bankruptcy Law Association, and he currently serves on the Board of the J. Bratton Davis Bankruptcy American Inn of Court and the Midlands Business Leadership Group.  He is a 2017 graduate of Leadership South Carolina, and a 2011 graduate of Leadership Columbia.
